ISLAMABAD: A ‘full bench’ of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday decided to hear the case filed by PTI’s founding member and ex-information secretary Akbar S Babar regarding financial improprieties in the party.
The Election Commission, which met under the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, held preliminary hearing and focused on admissibility and jurisdiction of the electoral body with regard to the petition filed by Babar. The forum ordered the PTI to appear before it on February 23 to plead its case.
Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, wherein he wanted to know who had ordered the printing of ballot papers while demanding provision of the record about the use of ballot papers in 2013 polls.
“What was the total bill and who paid it,” Tareen asked? The
PTI leader also sought details of bills of Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP), Security Printing Press (SPP) and Postal Foundation (PF). He contended that the PTI, being the second largest political party, had the right to get access to the information. He questioned the inordinate delay in provision of the record of ballot papers used in 2013 elections.
