Model Town killings

LAHORE: Idara Minhajul Quran has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging a decision of an anti-terrorism court about not summoning Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others in Model Town killings case.

The trial court in its decision on a private complaint of the party refused to try 12 suspects including PM Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, MNA Hamza Shahbaz, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Railways Minister Kh Saad Rafiq, Defence Minister Kh Asif, former information minister Pervez Rashid, State Minister Abid Sher Ali, Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali, former personal secretary to CM Tauqir Shah, Home Secretary Azam Suleman and former commissioner Lahore Rashid Langaryal.

However, the court decided to try 124 other officials including Punjab IG Mushtaq Sukhera and former DCO Lahore Muhammad Usman in Model Town killing case.

In a petition, the organisation’s administrator, Jawad Hamid, pleads that the trial court ignored the case evidence and erred by not summoning the 12 respondents. He alleges that the prime minister and others were real masterminds and abettors of the incident.

The petitioner prays to the court to set aside the ATC decision and direct it to summon the 12 respondents.
