Kashmiri freedom fighters fighting their indigenous fight against oppressive Indian forces as well as against draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act for the genuine cause of liberation have been unfortunately painted black by none other than ‘Jordan Times’ which is the only English newspaper of the Islamic state of Jordan.
It is indeed quite unfortunate that a country that enjoys the identity of a Hashemite state/kingdom, drawing its identity from the noblest Hashemite title, is playing tools in the hands of Indian lobbyists and propagandists whose psychological warfare is mounting day by day to tarnish the image of innocent Kashmiri Muslims and their supporters in Pakistan and other parts of the Islamic world.
As per record available in media Archives of Jordan, ‘Jordan Times’ , in its issue of February 13, 2017 published a news item on Kashmir describing the killed Kashmiris as rebels, militants and terrorists while calling the killed Hindu soldier a martyr.
The newspaper ignored the solid reality that Muslims of Kashmir are fighting for their right of self-determination in line with the UN Security Council resolutions. And to add insult to injury, the Kashmiri freedom fighters killed by Indian forces on February 12 were mentioned as rebels, militants and terrorists but the irony did not end there. In the same news item, the Indian Army’s Hindu soldier killed during the fight has been called Shaheed (martyr).
When certain diplomats who have requested anonymity, inquired from the ‘Jordan Times’ management as to what was the reason for going an extra mile in calling freedom fighters as terrorists, the newspaper seniors replied that similar terms have been used twice or thrice by some opinion-making circles of Pakistan which encouraged ‘Jordan Times’ to repeat that (unreasonable) terminology.
