Towards progress
At the time of independence, there was no large-scale industry in Pakistan. With foreign investment, an auto industry plant was established in Karachi. Unfortunately, it is still struggling to come out of the assembly stage and start manufacturing. We should follow the example of South Korea and Singapore and allocate funds for the establishment of technical institutes, research centres and universities. Simultaneously, we should invite those Pakistani nationals who are working or have worked in famous multinational companies to head these institutions.
Switzerland produces high quality machinery in the field of textiles. Pakistan produces yarn and cloth which are not of a very high quality. Most of the machinery being used in Pakistan is 50 years old and needs to be replaced. Joint ventures between Swiss and Pakistani manufacturers can initiate the country’s manufacturing textile machinery.
