Health sector being reformed to ensure quality services: minister

LAHORE

The Punjab government will welcome international institutions’ cooperation for improving the healthcare system and evolving it according to present requirements.

It was stated by Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Kh Salman Rafique while talking to a delegation headed by Chairman Health Fund Impact Committee, Sir David Nicholson, according to a handout issued here on Saturday. Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Kh Imran Nazir, Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja, Chairman P&D Jehanzeb Khan, Secretary Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Ali Jan Khan, Chief Operating Officer Punjab Healthcare Commission, Dr Ajmal Khan, Special Secretary Health Sajid Mahmood Chauhan, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Dr. Qazi Saeed, Health Consultant Dr. Naeem ud Din Mian, Member Health P&D Dr. Shabana Haider, CEO I.DAP Mujahid Sherdil, Deputy Secretary Dr. Yadullah, Dr. Mushtaq Sulehria and other officers attended the meeting.

Salman Rafique said the Punjab government was introducing reforms in the health sector to ensure quality healthcare services to the people, for which cooperation of developed countries and international institutions was being sought. "The government is focusing on improving the performance of hospitals through outsourcing the management of some hospitals, janitorial services, security system and other matters," he added.

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Kh Imran Nazir said that revamping of 40 DHQ and THQ hospitals continued and the government was encouraging public and private partnership for improving diagnostic services, installation of CT Scan machines in all DHQ hospitals.

The meeting deliberated on the scope of cooperation between the Punjab Health Department and Abraaj Group. Options of cooperation in infrastructure development of hospitals, training and capacity-building of human resource, improving diagnostic and pathological labs and cooperation in brown field management also came under discussion.

It was decided that the group would pay a visit to the radiology tower of Services Hospital, Children Hospital Faisalabad, Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Pathological Lab of King Edward Medical University and submit a comprehensive report and recommendations to the government for joint ventures.

Workshop: A workshop 'Early Management of Trauma' will be held on Monday (tomorrow) by Surgery Department of Lahore General Hospital in the hospital to train doctors to deal with injured victims in case of any emergency situation like accidents or natural calamity. Provincial Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khwaja Salman Rafiq would be the special guest on the occasion.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, Ameer ud Din Medical College and LGH Principal Prof Dr Ghiyas un Nabi Tayyab said that workshop would be addressed by Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, Prof Muhammad Farooq Afzal, Prof Khalid Mahmood, Prof Tariq Suhail, Prof Mueed Iqbal Qureshi, Prof Kamran Khalid Khwaja, Prof Jaudat Saleem and Dr Shuaib Nabi.

 

patients Care: Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Sohail Saqlain has said that adequate arrangements are available in the hospital to provide prompt medical care to cardiac patients.

According to a handout issued here on Saturday, Dr Sohail Saqlain said that presently 12 cardiac monitors along with pulse Oximeters and other vital sign checking instruments were operational in the CCU of emergency. He said that on an average, six to eight cardiac patients needed these facilities daily. 

Moreover, another CCU of 10 beds is also functioning in the hospital where all the facilities of cardiac monitoring are available, and the special is taking care of cardiac patients, he added.

MoU: University of Education (UOE) and University of Gambia on Saturday signed an MoU aimed at exchanging scholars, students and academic information for research and educational process at both the institutions.

According to a press release the UOE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam on behalf of the University of Education and the Vice Chancellor Dr Faqir Muhammad Anjum on behalf of the University of Gambia signed the MoU. 

promoted: The Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex, Lahore, on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion and Selection Committee, has promoted 14 assistant professors of grade 18 working in different departments as associate professors, grade 19. 

The following doctors have been promoted: Saadia Shahzad Alam (Pharmacology), Javaid Iqbal Zaidi (Anatomy), Tahira Naseem (Chemical Pathology), Talha Mahmood (Chest Medicine), Johar Amin (Gastroenterology), Ghazanfar Ali Sirhindi (Hematology), Muhammad Ali Sheikh (Pediatric Surgery), Alia Hameed (Microbiology), Muhammad Ikram (Gynae and Obst) Dr Syed Ahmed Ali Hasan (Neurology), Saulat Sarfraz (Radiology), Shafquat Mukhtar (Gynae and Obst) Samira Haque (Histopathology) and Muhammad Akram (Biochemistry).
