KARACHI: Lahore’s Adil Jahangir five-under 67 to take a one-shot lead on the penultimate day of the Bank Al Habib 4th Rashid D. Habib Memorial National Professional Golf Tournament 2015 here at the Karachi Golf Club on Saturday.
After carding an opening round score of 70, Adil was in full flow in the second round as he conjured up an aggregate of seven-under 137 to take the pole position on the leader-board of the prestigious tournament.
Making full use of some excellent playing conditions, Adil played a series of brilliant shots to take a slim lead over former national champion Matloob Ahmed.
Ufone’s Matloob played the most sensational round of the day when he returned with a stunning card of seven-under 65. It helped him to compensate for an average outing (73) on the opening day and catapulted the seasoned pro into title contention.
Karachi’s Waheed Baloch was tied for the third place with Islamabad’s Sajjad Khan. Waheed played a steady opening round of 72 on day one but was ready to take calculated risks in the second round to finish with 69. Sajjad carded four-under 68.
Pakistan No. 1 Shabbir Iqbal also kept his title hopes alive by returning with a scorecard of 69.
A total of 100 players teed off on second day of the tournament competing for the highest award for Rs. 385,000.
Omar Shikoh Khan of Karachi Golf Club, who just turned professional golfer shot two under-par, thus joining the prize winners who will play the third and final round on Sunday.
In the senior professionals’ category Asghar Ali of Lahore Gymkhana with two under-par finished at the first position. M. Ilyas of Lahore Gymkhana claimed second position with a score of one over-par, whereas Ghani Khan of Karachi Golf Club took third position with 146.
A total of 41 professional golfers will tee off on third and final round of the tournament on Sunday (today). Vice Admiral Arifullah Hussaini Commander Karachi and President Karachi Golf Club will be the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
