Rawalpindi Lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA), Rawalpindi on Saturday boycotted courts in protest against blasphemous cartoons published by French weekly magazine, Charlie Hebdo. The lawyer community blocked main Kutcherry Chowk for half an hour raising slogans against blasphemous cartoons on the occasion. Lawyers have boycotted courts on the call of Punjab Bar Council to show displeasure over the sketches. Lawyers did not appear in the session court, district court and Cantonment courts. Similarly, various religious, political and trade organisations took out protest rallies against the publication of blasphemous sketches made by the French magazine, here like other parts of the country and the world. The angry protesters included District Bar Association (DBA) President GM Shah said that the publication of disrespectful sketches has unfolded the intentions of Europe. They said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Saudi Arabia should call an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on the issue and condemn the act of the media group. They said that the publication had hurt the feelings of the Muslims globally. “We are fighting the war on terrorism while the journalistic terrorism will make things difficult,” they added.
