LAHORE

“Cricket Comes Home” remained top trend on social media particularly microblogging giant—Twitter, truly presenting festivity and joy associated with the conduct of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore.

From welcoming foreign players who came to Pakistan to play the final match, the social media enthusiasts paid rich tributes to the Pakistan Army and the government, for bringing the final to Pakistan from the UAE, their favourite players from Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators as well as Pakistani artists who performed at the concluding ceremony of the mega event.

The twitterati were quick in welcoming the foreign players and an individual, Saad, wrote that Darren Sammy and other international players would always be loved and recognised for their part in making the PSL successful and entertaining.

A journalist while summing up sentiments of Shahid Afridi’s fans, as he didn’t play because of injury, wrote: “Lala (Shahid Afridi) not playing but his presence is enough.” Yet another citizen, Asfandyar Bhittani while mentioning people who thronged Gaddafi Stadium for the most awaited final tweeted: “This huge turnout has proved the unmatched resilience and patriotism of Pakistanis. Long Live Pakistan.”

Similarly, Facebook was abuzz with PSL related posts with many taking and posting their pictures wearing jerseys of their favourite teams and showing ongoing festivity because of the final being held in Lahore.

From security arrangements to management of the event, people continued pouring their support for the revival of international cricket in the country as well as lauding eye-catching performance by the paratroopers of the Pakistan Army during the concluding ceremony. “Watching PSL final ceremony at home, feeling honored and determined. Salute to our Army for their support. Finally Cricket Comes Home”, wrote another social media enthusiast. People also expressed their love for Police and Rangers for the security arrangements. Some also turned to online polls seeking votes as to which team would win the final while many also preferred live commentary of the match showing their joy and sadness over a particular ball. “Be it Peshawar Zalmi or Quetta Gladiators, it’s cricket that has won, it’s Pakistan that has won. It's the terror that has lost”, tweeted one Mansoor, which pretty much sums up the collective national sentiment.
