Tennis organisers overstating players’ participation
KARACHI: The organisers of Ebrahim Merchant Memorial tennis tournament that concluded at Karachi Gymkhana on Sunday presented wrong facts about entries to media.
They claimed in their first press statement that more than “170 entries are received in various events”. But a close analysis of all the results of the event disclosed that there were not more than 140 players and many of them entered their names in more than one age categories.
When contacted, Media Coordinator of Sindh Tennis Association (STA) Sarwar Hussain said that there were more than 170 players. “The number of entries we presented to media was correct and players came from all over the country to this event,” said Sarwar.
The local organisers usually use this tactic of presenting exaggerated facts about tennis events to lure sponsors.
