Warsi appeals for justice in Fahad murder case

LONDON: Former British cabinet minister and Conservative member of the House of Lords Baroness Sayeeda Warsi has appealed for justice in the murder case of British Pakistani Barrister Fahad Malik.

Fahad Malik was killed on Main Margalla Road in the heart of Islamabad on the night between 14 and 15 August 2016 few moments after leaving the police station which he had attended in his professional capacity as a lawyer, mediating between two parties.

Sayeeda Warsi met Businessman Jawad Sohrab Malik, Barrister Fahad Malik’s younger brother, at the House of Lords here and extended her support for ‘Justice for Fahad Malik’ campaign. Sayeeda Warsi said she had raised the issue within hours of the murder of Fahad Malik because she was shocked to learn that an innocent British Pakistani has been killed by gangsters in such a terrorising way in a public place.

Sayeeda Warsi told Geo News it was unfortunate that the alleged killers were enjoying lavish facilities in Adiala Jail with help from the jail authorities. She said that exemplary punishment for the killers would establish the confidence of Overseas Pakistanis in Pakistan’s justice system. Warsi appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to look into the complaints made by the family of Fahad Malik that the alleged killers enjoy luxuries inside the jail and have been running their affairs from inside the jail with impunity in return for heavy bribes.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi said that she will continue to raise voice for justice for Fahad Malik. “Fahad Malik was killed in total contempt for human life and his death has devastated his family, friends, and the residents of the federal capital. His children need answers and they deserve justice at all costs. Fahad Malik cannot be brought back but justice in this case will give some comfort to the grieving family.”

Warsi said that the chief minister of Punjab is known for taking action against outlaws and hoped that he will act swiftly in this case too. “I have faith in Pakistan’s justice system and I am optimistic that justice will be done. I hope that one day the continuing trauma of the victim’s family will come to an end. No one is above the law and no one should be able to attempt to corrupt the system.”

Jawad Malik, who is running ‘Justice for Fahad Malik’ campaign, said that his brother had no enmity or rivalry with anyone. “Fahad Malik was killed by the gangsters just to show off that they were above the law and didn’t care about human lives. We continue to grieve and mourn. Fahad’s family needs justice and it's necessary for Pakistan also that justice is done in this case so the rule of law is valued and established.”
