45 arrested in search operations

LAHORE

Lahore police conducted  search operations in various parts of the City and arrested 45 suspects. 

The arrested persons had failed to produce their identification papers for checking. Police checked 977 houses, 195 tenants, 22 hotels, three bus stands, 278 shops, railway station and madaras.

Security: Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has put the security on high alerted in the province in wake of recent wave of terrorism. 

A number of directions were issued in a circular sent to the regional and district police officers regarding security, law and order on Friday.

The IGP directed the police officers to beef up the security at mosques, Imambargahs, shrines and other important places. Movement of suspicious persons should strictly be monitored and patrolling around sensitive place should be made more effective, he said. Strict monitoring of the entry and exit points of the province should be ensured and a vigilant eye should be kept on suspicious persons, the IGP said, adding that no laxity would be tolerated in checking of vehicles, motorcycles and persons crossing the inter-provincial check posts.

Appropriate action should be taken against the persons unable to prove their identity, he said.

While directing about the security arrangements at the markets, shopping malls, recreational places and educational institutes, the IGP said that monitoring of the police officials deployed there should be ensured. The circular directed all the RPOs and DPOs to stay in the field and ensure better monitoring of the patrolling and checking points. 

Meanwhile, DIG Operations Dr Hairder Ashraf said that on the occasion of Jumma tul Mubarak in the provincial metropolis , more than 10,000 police officials,  SPs, 35 DSPs and 84 SHOs of Lahore police performed duties.

The officers of the Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit also remained on patrol. The officers applied a three-layered security check procedure for the people attending prayers. Lahore police organised strict security arrangement for Juma tul Mubarak and security remained on high alert. 

BAR ELECTION: The Civil Lines SP met the members of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) in connection with the security arrangements for LHCBA elections scheduled to be held today (Saturday).

The SP said that they would provide outstanding security to the lawyers in this regard and keep in touch with them during the polling process.

Loot returned: The CIA SP handed over loot and stolen valuables and vehicles recovered from robbers and thieves to their owners. Those who received their valuables and vehicles included Asif, Akram, Munir, Shaukat Ali, Farooq, Muhammad Salim, Ajmal, Faheem, Abbas, Arif, Abdul Rehman, Amir Hussain, Arsalan, Atif Riaz, Ahmad Yar, Arshad and Junaid.

Robber held: Racecourse investigation police claimed to have arrested a robber and recovered loot from his possession. The arrested robber was identified as Zeeshan alias Shani. 

vehicles: A four-member delegation of the Chinese Consulate led by Consul General Long Dingbin called on Inspector General of Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera at Central Police Office on Friday.

Punjab Home Secretary  Maj (R) Azam Suleman and other senior police officers were also present.

The Chinese consul general lauded the steps taken for security of foreigner, especially the Chinese working in Pakistan and said that setting up Special Protection Unit was a praiseworthy effort of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the IGP. He said that Chinese government had sent 10 double-cabin vehicles as goodwill gesture to strengthen capacity of Special Protection Unit.

The home secretary and the IGP praised the goodwill gesture of the Chinese government and thanked the Chinese consul general. They said that a number of practical steps were being taken to improve performance of Punjab Police’s Special Protection Unit, including increasing human resource and logistics. 

They said the vehicles provided by the Chinese government for SPU would improve the capacity of the unit.
