LHC seeks report on JuD detentions
LAHORE
A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday sought a report from Punjab Home Department about detention of Jamatud Dawa’s chief and his aides.
The bench headed by Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim took up the petition filed by JuD chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, his aides Prof Malik Zafar Iqbal, Abdur Rehman Abid, Qazi Kashif Hussain and Abdullah Ubaid challenging their detention ordered by the provincial government. Advocate AK Dogar represented the petitioners. The bench directed the Home Department to submit its report by March 7. The petitioners stated that Punjab government in the light of the Interior Ministry’s order detained them for a period of 90 days in exercise of powers under Section 11-EEE(1) of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. They contended that Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan in a statement had said the government was fulfilling its obligations under UN resolutions. They said by doing so the government proved that the Pakistan was a dependent nation.
The petitioners that for the last many years, they had been serving the country like Abdul Sattar Edhi. The petitioners pleaded that the order issued by the government was without jurisdiction. The petitioners argued that the government had no evidence that the petitioners were risk to security of Pakistan, and merely on the basis of the UN resolutions their liberty could not be curtailed. They prayed to the court to set aside the government notifications for being illegal and set them at liberty.
dismissed: A Lahore High Court division bench has dismissed a contempt of court petition seeking action against the administrator of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) for not relinquishing the charge despite a court order.
Ahmad Yar Lodhi, secretary of Faisal Saleh Hayat’s group of the PFF, filed the petition and contended that Justice (R) Asad Munir had not abandoned the charge of the federation’s administration though the same division bench had set aside the appointment of the administrator.
The bench headed by Justice Ayesha A Malik, however, dismissed the petition and observed that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the case. A single bench comprising Justice Farrukh Irfan had appointed Asad Munir as administrator of the PFF to run its affairs till final decision on the litigation. The PFF challenged the decision before a division bench through an intra-court appeal (ICA).
