A one year old girl was burnt alive while two children received burns when a gas cylinder exploded with a big bang in the Begumpura area near UET on Wednesday.
Rescuers reached the scene and controlled the fire. The victim has been identified as Shehr Bano, daughter of Badshah Khan. The injured victims were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Rescuers said the gas had spread in the kitchen of a house situated near Mehmoodabad graveyard due to leakage. As someone lit fire, the cylinder exploded with a big bang at around 11:36am. As a result, three children received burns. The infant received serious burns and died on the spot. Soon after the incident, locals of the area came on main road and started protesting against the authorities concerned, including PML-N MNA. They claimed there was no gas for the last many months. They had complained to the authorities concerned but to no avail. The residents were bound to use gas cylinders which had been resulting into such tragedies. They demanded immediate action against the quarters responsible.
