Youth shot dead; prayer leader among three injured

A young man was killed while four other people including an elderly prayer leader (peshimam) were injured in shooting incidents reported in the city on Wednesday.

In Gulistan-e-Jauhar, 22-year-old Ali Nawaz was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Perfume Chowk. The killers managed to flee the scene and the victim’s body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.

In Ittehad Town police limits, 70-year-old Maulana Adam Khan, a prayer leader at Allahwala Mosque located in the vicinity, was targeted by unidentified attackers in Hazara Colony. 

Police were unclear about the motive of the attack but said Khan had been admitted to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he remains under treatment. The attackers managed to make an easy getaway after the shooting.

In Mauripur, unidentified men opened fire at 40-year-old Javed. The victim suffered multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to the CHK for treatment. Police officials said they were investigating the attack and efforts were being made to track down the men involved. 

Separately, two brothers Meher Khan, 26, and Hatim Khan, 30, were injured as firing broke out in a clash between two groups. Also, an unidentified man was reportedly injured in firing by unknown men in the city’s Golimar area.
