LAHORE: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry on Monday said the PML-N government had agreed to call Rangers in Punjab on the pressure of Pakistan Army but the decision could only produce positive results if policing powers were given to the force.

In a statement, Ejaz Chaudhry said the Punjab government did allow operation against terrorists in Punjab for three years which eventually worsened the law and order situation. He also demanded the Punjab government remove all ministers who allegedly had links with banned outfits, adding an indiscriminate Rangers operation was the need of the hour in the province.

Meanwhile, Waleed Iqbal, President PTI Urban Lahore, in a statement said the announcement to call Rangers in Punjab was in fact another eyewash by the PML-N government as it couldn’t afford to empower the force.

The PTI leader said the PML-N leadership was scared of an indiscriminate action by Rangers which would expose the ruling party itself, charging that at least half of Nawaz League would face arrest if a real action was taken.   Moreover, former Governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar is expected to join PTI in the coming days, claimed the media cell of the PTI.
