CCP penalises organisations for deceptive marketing

ISLAMABAD: Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has imposed penalties on different private and public sector organisations indulging in deceptive marketing practices in violation of the Competition Act, 2010. The CCP imposed penalty on real estate, petroleum and dairy companies to stop the malpractices and maintain transparency in the market, an official of the CCP told APP on Monday.

He said before imposing penalties, the CCP conducted an impartial investigation for maintaining transparency in the market for evolving the accountability mechanism. The CCP had imposed a penalty Rs150 million, Rs2 million, Rs64 million on Pakistan State Oil, Bahria Town Rawalpindi, and different dairy companies, respectively, for running deceptive marketing campaign for products, he added.

He said the CCP was mandated under the Competition Act, 2010 to ensure fair competition in all spheres of commercial and economic activity. The CCP was committed to maintain transparency for enhancing economic efficiency and to protect consumers from anti- competitive practices, including deceptive marketing. He said the commission strived to promote a healthy competition in all spheres of commercial and economic sectors.
