‘Policies of dictators, selfishness of political leadership responsible for East Pakistan debacle’
LAHORE: The Secretary-General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the wrong policies of the military dictators, besides the selfishness of the bureaucracy and political leadership, had led to the debacle of East Pakistan.
Addressing a function in connection with the Fall of Dhaka, Secretary-General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Liaqat Baloch said that India had started conspiracies against Pakistan with the connivance of the world powers much before 1970, and the situation became worse when the results of the 1970 elections were not accepted.
This provided New Delhi an excuse to openly interfere in East Pakistan. Liaqat Baloch said that drifting away from the Islamic system and the rule of the corrupt and secular people had created great problems for the country and the nation.
The refusal of the military and political leadership to accept the principle of provincial autonomy had deeply hurt national unity, he said. He said that the nation could not forget the Peshawar APS tragedy either in which hundreds of our young students were martyred.
