KP CM wants CII observations on proposed bill addressed

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday directed the quarters concerned to address the observations made by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on the draft bill on domestic violence.

An official handout said that he was presiding over a meeting of women lawmakers at the Chief Minister's House here. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, MPAs Uzma Khan, Rashida Riffat, Dena Naz, Meraj Humayun Khan, Amina Sardar, Ruqaia, Sobia Khan and Rehana Jalil attended the meeting.

The chief minister told the meeting that the provincial government had chalked out a comprehensive programme for the development of women. He hoped that the programme would help polish the skills of the women.

The chief minister said the government was taking initiatives for the empowerment of women and extending them equal opportunities for development. He informed the meeting that Rs1 billion had been released for the development of young women. Pervez Khattak said several programmes were available for the welfare of women. He asked women parliamentarians to work for the betterment of womenfolk. The chief minister assured all possible assistance to women legislators. Acknowledging the potential of women, he admitted that the women of the province were capable and had exhibited outstanding performance in every walk of life. He said that women lawmakers had performed an active role in legislation, solution of the problems of the common man and especially for the welfare of womenfolk.

The chief minister said the contribution of women legislators had been recognised at the national and international level. He added the provincial government was planning to launch more projects for the welfare of the women. He urged the women to come forward and take advantage of the facilities being made available for their welfare. The chief minister asked the authorities concerned for submitting case for the provision of Rs5 million to women MPAs. He said the funds would be made a permanent part of the assembly budget.
