District admin explains arrest of student activist

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Saturday said one Shaukat Aziz was arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order.

“The arrest has nothing to do with Fata. The district administration has taken him into custody under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order on the appeal of another citizen, Sajidullah Khan, as both of them were hurling threats at each other,” said a communique issued from the Deputy Commissioner Peshawar office.

The communique termed the allegations of Shaukat Aziz as baseless and fabricated.“The administration came to know about a press conference by supporters of Shaukat Aziz at the Peshawar Press Club, alleging that the administration had detained him for his opposition to merger of Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is a totally baseless and fabricated statement,” the district administration explained in the statement.

It said the administration took action and arrested him after another citizen, Sajidullah Khan, wrote an application to the Deputy Commissioner office and complained that he and his family faced serious threats from Shaukat Aziz. Both of them belong to Kurram Agency.

“Sajidullah in his application complained that Shaukat Aziz was threatening him of dire consequences on telephone. He had appealed to the deputy commissioner for providing him and his family protection against Shaukat Aziz. The deputy commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud ordered the arrest of both of them under Section 3 MPO,” it mentioned in the statement.

It said that the cops of the Faqirabad Police Station six days ago took the two into custody after they pointed guns at one another in a students’ function.

It said Shaukat Aziz was now trying to give a wrong colour to his arrest as if this has been done because he supported Fata reforms and the government is against it. Shaukat Aziz is leading a group of students from Fata.
