Member Administration of Capital Development Authority CDA) and Chief Metropolitan Officer Sulaiman Khan said the water demand is currently 125 million gallon per day but only 50 million gallon is available due to persistent dry weather.

"Two electric motors at Simli Dam are being repaired while 19 out of total 35 water tankers are not fit to be used for supply of water. Out of 192, repair work is underway in 62 tubewells that is also creating problems in supply of water to the residents," he said.

He said Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a dry spell till January so the water availability is decreasing day by day, adding "As soon as all the tubewells get functional to their full capacity the situation would show considerable improvement."

Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi said they have completely reviewed the water supply system and prepared a report carrying recommendations to enable it to meet the requirements of the citizens.

"Effective measures would be taken to improve water supply system including replacement of old pipelines; construction of small water storage tanks; installation of new electric motors at tubewells; monitoring to check water theft; and introduction of rain harvesting system.
