Honouring Salam
After ignoring Dr Abdus Salam for over thirty years, we have finally recognised our greatest scientist and the only Nobel Laureate the country has in the field of knowledge. The people of the country had disowned and disrespected Salam because of their narrow-minded bigotry. Whoever has taken the decision of naming the Quaid-e-Azam University Physics Department after him has taken a very commendable and bold step, and done a great favour to this ungrateful nation who never valued the only brilliant scientist the country has produced. It is saddening that Salam was duly acknowledged by the rest of the world except his homeland.
Hopefully this noble gesture will be appreciated and more education institutions will honour the great man. It is also hoped that fanatic bigots will not start agitating against this good deed. This recent step should be treated as a case of ‘better late than never’ and the government should look forward to carry out more such steps.
