Mohenjo-daro is a symbol of the ancient civilisation of Sindh. Currently, it is under the administrative control of the Sindh government. In the past, the UNESCO, federal and provincial governments allocated million dollars to conserve the place for local and foreign tourists, but no productive results were achieved. The place has lost attraction for tourists due to the absence of facilities at the site. Although the archeological place is a world-known entity, there is no resource to look after it properly. The government has not assigned a tour guide in the place to help visitors explore the place. No tuck shop and gift shop with all cultural souvenirs is there. No facility of phone or internet is available there. There is no proper arrangement of the supply of electricity during the night time. The worst of all is that there is no facility of drinking water and clean public toilets.
The Sindh government should carry out steps to save and make the place an international level tourist place. The government should solve the basic problems faced by tourists visiting the place. The government should start a special tourist bus service from Larkana and other nearing cities, establish modern restaurants, provide security, ensure that public washrooms are clean, provide phone and internet facility, and have a proper lighting arrangements at the site.
