Quorum cripples PA

The 25th session of Punjab Assembly was prorogued on Monday once again after it failed to meet quorum.

The slackness and non-serious attitude of the government and its legislators came under severe criticism from the Opposition benches which criticised the 'poor' performance of the Punjab government despite having a huge cabinet.

The PA session which started with Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal Khan in chair had to take up the questions related with irrigation but only one out of the total questioners who had posed queries to the department were present in the House.

Shoaib Siddiqi, the PTI MPA on a point of order said the Punjab government had appointed new ministers but like their old colleagues, they were also not interested in taking part in the process of legislation and attending the PA session which cost millions of rupees of public money.

The PA failed to meet quorum pointed out by MPA Shoaib Siddiqi after which it was prorogued.

Earlier, Asif Mehmood, a PTI MPA on a point of order also urged Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan to clarify his position over the allegations levelled against him and the suspicious activities at his Dera in Faisalabad. On this, Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal Khan said that the Law Minister had already responded to these allegations.

Reports pertaining to Metro Bus Project, Forest, Housing and Urban Development departments were also presented in the House.

This is noteworthy that the 25th session of PA which started in the third week of November failed to meet quorum multiple times and proceedings were adjourned before the completion of agenda. Despite the cabinet expansion, the failure of PA in meeting the quorum had brought the seriousness of new ministers and treasury under immense criticism from Opposition benches.  —Faizan Bangash
