The residents of Union Council (UC) 18 are facing number of basic problems and the UC chairman is doing little bit effort on self-help basis to resolve them as he has so far received no funds for the development projects.

In UC-18 there are six wards and 20,000 registered voters but there is no playground for youngsters who are often seen playing cricket and hockey on rough patches or streets in the area.

Rehmat Shah, a resident of UC-18, said they are living few kilometers away from the Prime Minister House but lack all basic amenities of life, adding "The residents of the area have set up water filtration plants on self-help basis."

The heaps of garbage alongside the roads and in the residential areas create uncongenial environment for the residents and visitors as well. Encroachment on the main road of the area blocks smooth flow of the vehicular traffic and often causes traffic jams.

Ghulam Farid, another resident, said there is no park for the people and despite availability of some open spaces no effort has so far been made to construct recreational facility in the locality.

Chairman of UC-18 Wasim Sana said they have received no funds for the development projects but still are trying their best to address the grievances of the local people.

"Now second shift has been started in the girls high school that will help provide education to the young woman near their homes," he said.

He said the filtration plant has also been set up without getting any support from the government, adding "As soon as he receives funds from the government he will initiate number of development projects to provide relief to the people."
