Training of LG representatives begins in Abbottabad
ABBOTTABAD: A training programme for elected local government representatives of Abbottabad district commenced here on Monday under the auspices of Omar Asghar Khan Foundation.
According to a press release, the programme will continue till December 31. It was aimed at building the capacity of over 2,000 elected councillors, helping them become more familiar with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2013 and the three-tier structure of local government. The councillors will be provided detailed information on the fiscal decentralisation measures and learn budget-making skills.
The foundation’s Executive Director Rashida Dohad said the training would help the councillors understand the need for public participation in governance and learn ways to make it possible. She hoped the training would strengthen the local government system and help people benefit from it.The training is being conducted in collaboration with the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is part of the Citizens’ Voice Project supported by the USAID.
