The Sindh police chief briefed the province’s chief minister on the recovery of a sizeable cache of weapons that was found buried in a garbage dump in the city’s Old Clifton area on Thursday.
IGP AD Khowaja told CM Murad Ali Shah that a police team dug up a spot near a garbage dump near a branch of the National Bank of Pakistan. The team, the IGP said, recovered a huge cache of weapons that included 3,695 bullets, 61 magazines, 23 rifles of different caliber, four pistols, 230 rounds and four magazines.
The police also recovered two daggers, one metal detector, two police caps, and two pistol belts. The IGP told the chief minister that the Boat Basin police have registered an FIR, No 764/2016, against unidentified culprits.
The chief minister appreciated the police’s action and directed the IGP to investigate the matter thoroughly. Over the course of the day, there were media reports that the weapons were found from the house of former fisheries chief, Nisar Morai, who is known to be a close associate of former president Asif Ali Zardari. However, no official confirmed the report.
