Schools being connected to world institutions

Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood has said public sector schools of the province are being connected with the best educational institutions of the world. 

He said this while chairing a meeting about connecting public sectors schools of Punjab with the best educational institutions of the world through the joint programme of Directorate of Staff Development (DSD) and British Council. 

The minister said the programme would be for the brilliant students to exchange mutual experiences, observations and educational abilities of the world through internet under connecting classroom programme.

Rana Mashhood said revolutionary reforms were being introduced in school education under the educational vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

He said educational standard would be improved by connecting public sectors schools of Punjab with the schools of the world through joint programme of DSD and British Council.

He said 550 schools had been selected from 51 clusters of Punjab in the first phase under International School Award of British Council under which selected schools had been connected with 44,000 schools of 180 countries.

The meeting considered the steps for expanding of connecting classroom programme.

Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen and others attended the meeting.

conference: The 29th international neuro-surgery conference under Pakistan Society of Neuro Surgeons and in collaboration with Department of Neuro Surgery, General Hospital begins on Friday (today) and will continue till November 6. 

According to a press release issued on Thursday, a large number of doctors have reached from foreign countries to attend the important conference. 

Professor of Neurosurgery Dr Khalid Mahmood, chairman organising committee of the conference, said doctors coming from abroad have brought modern medical equipment and machines to impart practical training to Pakistani doctors. For this purpose, a training workshop comprising five sessions would also be conducted in the Skill Lab established at newly-constructed Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences. Prof Khalid Mahmood said more than 250 delegates would be given time for visiting historical places of the city after the conference.

Stalls: Punjab Minister for Women Development Department Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din has said that stalls are being reserved for women in Sunday and Sastay bazaars across the province under the Women Package.

She was talking to a delegation of Women Chambers of Commerce and Industry, led by its President Shazia Suleman, here on Thursday. The other members of the delegation were Fakhra Hassan, senior vice-president, Dr Shehla Javed Akram, founding president, Qaisra Sheikh, former president, Irum Shaheen, Rukhsana Khan, Ayesha Khuram, Falahat Imran and Mustafa Zaidi.

The minister said that the government attached great importance to economic prosperity and empowerment of women, and, for the purpose, a number of steps had been taken. She said that in addition to establishing business facilitation centres, Women Expo was also being arranged. She stated that under the interest-free loans scheme of the government, more than 54 percent women had been provided loans so that they could stand on their own feet as well as support their families.

She said that the basic purpose of setting up Women Development Department was to safeguard the women’s rights and ensure implementation of measures in this regard.

The minister appreciated the cooperation of the Women Chambers regarding setting up stalls for women in Sastay and Sunday bazaars and research study to collect data of women venders.
