Education for growth
Education contributes towards the strong economic growth of a country by producing a productive and skilled labour force. However, the education standards of Pakistan is very poor. The country is considered as the low human development country and ranks at 147 according to the United Nation Development ranking of the HDI. The literacy rate of the country has not increased much in the past ten years as it was 53 percent in 2004-05 and in the 2015-2016 economic survey it was measured to be 60 percent in 2014-15. Pakistan is the sixth most populous country in the world, but the development in the education sector of the country is very slow.
Lack of government interest and corruption in the sector has destroyed the education system of the country. The government and policymakers have to show concern towards this area or else ‘the literate Pakistan’ will remain a dream.
