LAHORE
Grand Teachers Alliance Punjab (GTAP) organised a peaceful protest against the Punjab government outside Lahore Press Club here on Monday.
Dozens of teachers, carrying banners and placards in support of their demands, chanted slogans against, what they termed, the government’s anti-teachers and anti-education policies.
The demonstration was led by Sajjad Kazmi, Rana Atta Muhammad, Rana Liaqat, Aslam Ghuman and others. Speaking on the occasion, they said the government was not addressing serious and genuine issues faced by the schoolteachers in Punjab. They said on the call of Grand Teachers Alliance Punjab similar demonstrations were held outside press clubs across the province. They said their struggle would continue until the acceptance of their demands and further said from November the protests would be held at divisional level. The teachers in Punjab are protesting because of non upgradation, action against them on the pretext of poor results as well as the privatisation of public sector schools through the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
