PPP not to recognise any change materialising through ‘umpire’s finger’

KARACHI: Sindh Information Adviser Maula Bakhsh Chandio has said that the Indian intelligence agency RAW (Research and Intelligence Wing) was involved in a spate of terrorist incidents in the country and for this the route of Afghanistan was being used.

Talking to newsmen on Tuesday after the Sindh chief minister held a meeting at the CM House on the law and order situation in the province, the information adviser said that there were threats of terrorist incidents in the province. However, all the relevant agencies are fully equipped to deal with the situation.

Chandio said that participants of the meeting, with the CM in the chair, expressed the resolve that the ongoing operation of law-enforcement agencies in the province against terrorists would continue uninterrupted. He said that war could never bring prosperity as aggression would always cause destruction. He said that India and Pakistan both were under obligation to ensure prosperity for their respective countrymen.

He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always tried to cement its ties with the Indian government when the extremists came to power in India. He said although the federal government had been facing serious challenges of national security, it had different set of priorities.

Chandio said the government has to make full preparations to tackle any situation of terrorism and lawlessness as terrorists had no faith or religion. Unfortunately, he added, the federal government has not been showing far-sightedness to deal with such threats.

He said that owing to sacrifices made by the police and Rangers and also due to due steps taken by the Sindh government for normalisation of conditions, peace had been restored to the province. Chandio said the Sindh government had the resolve not to spare terrorists wherever they were be hiding and all their illegal offices would be demolished.

To a question, he said the Sindh governor was not a representative of the provincial government, rather he was the representative of the Federation in the province and the federal government could take any action against him, if required. “Attitude of Sindh governor is good with us. Apart from this, a specific political party has levelled allegations against the governor and the Federation has to investigate those allegations,” said the information adviser.

He said that in case the political change, for which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was campaigning, came through “Raising of Umpire’s finger” then the PTI would also meet the same fate as that of the PML Q-League. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would only accept a change brought through peoples’ power and a change that materialises through “raising of umpire’s finger” would not be recognised by the party.

Commenting on the recent allegations made by Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan against PPP’s Sindh government, Chandio said that the opposition leader should first consider the allegations levelled against him before accusing others.

Also speaking on the occasion, Sindh Law Adviser Murtaza Wahab said that several concerned agencies had made efforts collectively for restoration of peace in the province despite grave threats of terrorism.
