SUKKUR: Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a team of anti-polio workers in Shikarpur during a vaccination drive, injuring one paramedic critically.  The anti-polio worker, Gul Muhammed Mirza, was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad because of the serious nature of his injuries.

The vaccination drive was suspended temporarily in protest against the attack on the anti-polio worker.  Moreover, paramedics at the Taluka hospital in Shikarpur stopped work at the OPD of the hospital against the attack on their colleague.

A protest rally was also taken out against the attack. The anti-polio vaccination drive later resumed on the assurance of the DHO of Shikarpur that the accused would be arrested. Meanwhile, the vaccination drive kicked off in Khairpur, Sukkur and other cities of Sindh.  A walk was arranged in Khairpur to raise awareness about polio.
