‘PML-Q playing its role as true opposition’
Pervaiz elected unopposed Punjab president in intra-party elections
LAHORE
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has been elected unopposed president of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Punjab while Chaudhry Zaheer Uddin has been elected unopposed general secretary of PML-Q Punjab in the intra-party elections held at Muslim League House on Wednesday.
Mian Imran Masood has been elected secretary information. The party general council has given authority to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to nominate other candidates. The general council also selected 708 members from across the province for the representation of party in the province under the constitution of the party.
The leaders and activists of PML-Q arrived at the Muslim League House from across the province. The party election commission comprising Chief Election Commissioner Alamgir Advocate, Ajmal Khan Wazir, Rafay Hussain, Chaudhry Abdul Razzaq and Mrs Hamid Rana received nominations, scrutinised candidates and finally announced the names of those elected unopposed.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the provincial general council was held. Basharat Raja, Tariq Bashir Cheema and Ch Zaheeruddin expressed support for the leadership of Ch Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi. They said their party was playing the role of proper opposition under the leadership of Pervaiz Elahi.
The speakers said the government was not ready to improve their bad governance despite that the Supreme Court of Pakistan highlighted different issues in their governance. They demanded the
restoration of facilities provided to the poor people and farmers in their era. They said the government was making fun of national institutions.
The provincial general council also expressed its concern over the poor law and order situation in the province.
Ch Zaheeruddin said Pakistan Army had played vital role in national security and maintenance of law and order in the country. He alleged the government had not implemented most of points of National Action Plan properly.
He added that Ch Pervaiz Elahi and Ch Shujaat Hussain were abroad but they were playing a better role of opposition over which the party had reelected Pervaiz Elahi as president.
Chief Organizer Basharat Raja on the occasion said the selectors of Mian Nawaz Sharif as president of PML-N had no mandate to select him as the party elections started from the union council and culminate at the federal level.
In 1993, Pervaiz Elahi was elected deputy opposition leader in Punjab Assembly and he also acted as leader of the opposition. He was elected unopposed Speaker of Punjab Assembly in 1997. He remained chief minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007.
