One killed in Kurram landmine explosion

PARACHINAR: A tribesman was killed and his friend sustained injuries in a landmine blast in the central part of Kurram Agency on Tuesday, official sources said. They said Muhammad Janan and his friend, whose name could not be ascertained, were wandering in the fields in the Jaar area when one of them reportedly stepped on a landmine.As a result, the sources said, Muhammad Janan was killed on the spot while his companion sustained critical wounds in the explosion. The injured tribesman was shifted to a hospital in Sadda in the Kurram Agency.The political administration has lodged a case and started an investigation.

 

Pilot killed as PAF Mirage crashes

KARACHI: The pilot embraced martyrdom when a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage aircraft crashed in the Musharraf Colony on Tuesday. According to PAF sources, the PAF has launched an investigation into the crash. The pilot had successfully ejected from the aircraft but sustained injuries, which proved fatal. The PAF adds that the Mirage was on a routine training flight. The crash site is located beyond the Edhi graveyard, situated next to the restricted area. There was no loss on the ground, the PAF sources said.

 

PM’s visit to RY Khan cancelled

BAHAWALPUR: The PM’s visit to Rahimyar Khan scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled. According to the district administration, the prime minister had to inaugurate the health insurance cards scheme for the poor.

 

SHC orders action against liquor shops in two days

CJ says liquor being sold in such quantity that minorities can bathe in it

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the excise and taxation department director general to start the process of recalling licences granted to wine shops throughout the province observing that they were issued in violation of the law. The court ordered that notices should be issued to the liquor shops throughout the province within two days and sought a compliance report by October 26.

 

Lawyers rally against AC

TOBA TEK SINGH: Lawyers took out a rally against the alleged misbehaviour of Kamalia Assistant Commissioner Khalid Mahmood with lawyers on Tuesday. The lawyers took out a rally from the bar room up to the AC Office where they staged a sit-in. In their speeches, bar president Rai Niaz Ahmad Khan and general secretary Nayyar Abbas Marth vowed to continue the strike till the transfer of the AC. When contacted, the AC said that he had not insulted the lawyers and it was just a misunderstanding.

 

Minor girl killed in road accident

 MANSEHRA: A minor girl was killed in a road accident here on Tuesday. In the first incident, a speeding jeep crushed to death Sana Bibi, 5, in Darband area of the district. According to police, Sana, who had gone to bazaar to buy some goods, received injuries in her head when a speeding jeep crushed her. She died in the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad.

 

DRC resolves 450 disputes in Kohat

KOHAT: The Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) in the district has successfully resolved 450 petty disputes during the last two years. District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf told a meeting on Monday. Former CJ Syed Ibn-e-Ali, former director Provincial Health Services Academy Dr Abdul Rashid, Brigadier (R) Haroon Rasheed, former secretary of Regional Transport Authority Qaiser Naz and others attended the meeting. The meeting was told that most of the cases resolved through DRC related to domestic violence, money transaction, visa fraud, inheritance and property disputes.

 

SC seeks details in PIA tickets refund case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Tuesday heard a suo moto case regarding refund amount of tickets of Pakistan International Airways (PIA). Two-member SC bench, headed by Jusitce Saqib Nisar, sought details along with affidavits, about the flights cancelled during the strike held by the PIA employees against the proposed privatisation. The court asked the PIA officials how many passengers had booked their tickets and how much amount was refunded to passengers when flights were cancelled. PIA counsel Anwar Mansoor stated that the money had been refunded to those whose flights were cancelled during the strike. However, Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that full payment was not made to passengers.

 

IHC allows to amend plea against PTI’s shutdown call

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Tuesday granted permission to amend a petition filed against the call of the PTI to shut down the federal capital through protests and sit-in. Justice Aamir Farooq heard the case against the PTI’s protest call filed by a citizen through his counsel Hassan Maan. The petitioner prayed the court to pass restraining orders for respondents PTI and the government from shutting down Islamabad and blocking roads. The court asked which was the competent authority for allowing protests in Islamabad. The counsel for the petitioner said the district administration Islamabad was competent to allow such protests. The court observed then why the district administration was made respondent in the petition. The counsel requested the court to grant permission for amending the petition which was allowed by the court.

 

Two terrorists detained in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Two alleged terrorists affiliated with proscribed terrorist outfit Daesh were detained during a raid in Peshawar.The counter-terrorism department personnel Tuesday raided Palosi area and rounded up two alleged terrorists affiliated with Daesh while they were distributing pamphlets.CTD said they were distributing pamphlets and urging people to join Daesh. They have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation. The identity of detainees was not disclosed yet.

 

Anti-MQM Pakistan wall-chalking in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: After Karachi, wall-chalking has popped up in Hyderabad demanding resignation from the MQM leaders and party members. The wall-chalking carried out by unknown persons in Hyderabad’s Latifabad no 11 area calls for resignation of MQM Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar along with all the party members holding seats in the assembly.
