Two students die in car crash
LAHORE
Two students were killed while another sustained injuries in a road traffic accident in the Nawab Town police jurisdiction on Tuesday.
Police said victims Saad, son of Shahbaz Khan, Mobeen and Uzma Gull, students of first semester at a private university, were going in a car on Riaiwnd Road. As they reached near Valencia Town, the car driver lost control of the vehicle when a stray animal came in front of them. Police said that circumstantial evidences suggested that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding.
The car overturned and the victims suffered injuries. They were removed to hospital where doctors pronounced Saad and Mobeen dead. Uzma was discharged after treatment. Police are investigating the matter.
shot dead: A 35-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified persons in the City Raiwind police area on Tuesday.
Police said victim Ashfaq Ahmad was going on Kasur-Raiwind Road when he was intercepted by unidentified persons riding a bike. They shot him to death and fled the scene. Police have removed the body to morgue.
Woman dies: A 25-year-old woman died and two other people suffered injuries in a road accident at Chung on Tuesday. Police said victim Sadia and her two family members were going on a bike on Multan Road at Chung when the bike collided with an oil tanker. Victims fell down and sustained injuries. They were removed to hospital where doctors pronounced Sadia dead. Police have removed the body to morgue.
Labourer falls: A 45-year-old labourer was injured after falling from a roof in the Nawan Kot police area on Tuesday.
Rescue officials said victim Muhammad Muneer was busy in construction work of a house near Yateem Khana Chowk. He fell down from the roof and suffered injuries. Rescue teams removed him to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
ACCIDENTS: At least 619 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service, Rescue 1122, from all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Ten lives were lost and 533 people were injured in the accidents. The injured were removed to hospitals. However, some 214 victims who sustained minor injuries were provided with first aid.
Robbers rob, injure man: Two robbers shot at and wounded a citizen on resistance in the Kahna area on Tuesday and deprived him of a cell phone and Rs 15,000.
Victim Mobeen was removed to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
overcharging: CDGL price control magistrates continued their operation against profiteers and arrested 62 people for overcharging on Tuesday.
The CDGL officials said the DCO passed special orders for the magistrates to continue drive against the profiteers. They said the CDGL teams raided 636 spots, booked 35 shopkeepers for overcharging and arrested 62 people. They said seven people were sent to jail from the spot while a fine of Rs 13,000 was imposed on different shopkeepers.
arrested: Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Lahore region, on Tuesday arrested two police officials, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable, for taking Rs 22,000 bribe from a complainant.
According to ACE officials, the accused were identified as ASI Naveed Aslam and Constable Rana Irfan of North Cantt police station.
recovered: Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff, City, arrested three alleged car and bike lifters and recovered two cars and four bikes from their possession. Illegal arms were also seized from the arrested accused, identified as Faisal Ali, Amjad and Sarfraz.
Meanwhile, officials at Babu Sabu police picket arrested an accused drug pusher, identified as Qamar Zaman and recovered one kg cahars from his possession.
