PM pays surprise visit to girls’ school, mixes with students

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif onSaturday paid a surprise visit to a girls’ high school in Shamkot village near Khanewal and announced its upgradation to the higher secondary level.
The prime minister visited the institution on his way to Multan after performingthe inauguration of the 56-kilometre Khanewal-Multan (M4) section of the Motorway earlier in the day. It has been the style and pattern of politics by the prime minister where, disregarding protocol and security, he has made such moves in the past. With this he has revived his old style.
Addressing a large number of people, who happily gathered around him, the prime minister said he decided to reach out to the Shamkot villagers without any announcement because he wanted to learn about their problems and issues by meeting and mixing with them personally.
The villagers raised slogans in favour of the prime minister expressing their happiness.
On the prime minister’s inquiry, they cited the issues of sewerage and sanitation and he directed the district administration to immediately resolve the problems.
Accompanied by the staff and officials of the girls’ school, the prime minister inspected different classrooms, laboratories and drinking water facilities. He expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of different facilities, particularly the water cooler and electric wiring. He individually inquired from students about their problems. Upon the demands for provision of IT and science labs, maintenance and up-gradation of the school building, the prime minister directed the officials concerned to provide the required facilities to the school on urgent basis. He also inquired from the school administration about the requirement of staff and directed that each and every requirement of the school should be fulfilled without any delay. He said that the Higher Secondary Girls School of Shamkot would be given the status of college in future to cater for girls’ education of adjoining areas.
The students were overwhelmed to find the prime minister amongst them and they welcomed him by clapping. The prime minister also joined them in raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans. Later, Nawaz Sharif also drove a vehicle from Shamkot interchange to Vehari road interchange, covering a distance of 38 kilometres.
