Modern meteorological centres to tackle climatic challenges

MULTAN: Punjab Agriculture Information Assistant Director Naveed Asmat Kahloon Saturday said the Punjab government has established modern meteorological centres in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi to tackle climatic challenges.
Talking to The News in connection with the World Food Day, he said the government had allocated Rs 2.5 billion to promote modern agriculture and give android cellular sets to farmers to meet climatic and food security challenges. He said temperature is increasing in Pakistan in comparison to the rest of the world and hot weather duration is increasing rapidly. He said increase in heat is reducing water resources across the country and rain schedule is going to change rapidly affecting seasonal crops. Kahloon said Pakistani agriculture scientists have devised a strategy to combat climatic challenges and expediting agriculture research. The agriculture scientists have established promotion of mobile phones and internet services among farmers would be the best resources to get awareness about climatic changes. The agriculture scientists have recommended that modernization of satellite technology at national level to improve system of climatic changes. He said the government had allocated Rs 2.5 billion for modern agriculture technology promotion. Kahloon said the government has taken special initiatives to promote smart phone culture among farmers to provide them timely weather change information at doorstep. The temperature would increase to 6.5 degree centigrade at the end of current century, he added.
