LBA’s partial strike against lawyer’s licence suspension

LAHORE: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) Thursday observed partial strike to protest the suspension of licence of their its vice president by the  Lahore High Court committee. Many lawyers did not attend courts due to which cases were scheduled for next hearing. On October 8, LHC advisory committee had suspended practice licence of the LBA vice president for misbehaving with an additional district and sessions judge. On October 9, the Executive Committee of the Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) restored the licence.

 

Four of a family killed in bike-tractor collision

TOBA TEK SINGH: Four members of a family died in an accident on the Gojra-Painsara Road near Chak 281/JB on Thursday. Falak Sher of Chak 156/GB, his wife Javeria, four-year-old daughter Alisha, six-year-old son Ramzan and father-in-law Iqrar Hussain were going to Gojra from Faisalabad when a tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle. As a result, Falak Sher and his two children were killed on the spot while his wife and father-in-law Iqrar were seriously injured. They were shifted to the Allied Hospital in Faisalabad where Iqrar also died.

 

Five of a family die in Okara roof collapse

OKARA: Five members of a family were killed and as many others injured in a roof collapse at Madina Town, Renala Khurd. Muhammad Siddiq and his family were present in the house when its roof suddenly collapsed. As a result, Ali Hamza, 7, and Latif, 10, sons of Siddiq, Iffat Bibi, Muhammad Hanif and his son Abdur Rehman, 3, died on the spot while five others Muhammad Saleem, Shakil, Shafiq, Zeeshan and Rafiqan Bibi were injured. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122.

 

Robbers fire at SSP’s house

FAISALABAD: Three robbers opened fire at the house of SSP Dr Akhtar Rasool in Razabad when their bid to enter the house was foiled by security guards and the house inmates. The SSP was in Lahore to attend his NIPA course. The robbers fled on their motorcycle.

 

Nisar, British HC discuss bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Thursday held a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew and discussed relations between Pakistan and Britain and other issues including security and ongoing bilateral cooperation. They exchanged views on the expected visit of British National Security Adviser Sir Mark Lyall Grant to Pakistan. They talked about the reference sent by the government of Pakistan to the British government against Altaf Hussain and the progress of the legal action on it.

 

Judges detention case adjourned till Nov 22

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of judges detention case till November 22. As the court resumed the hearing of the case against former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf for detaining superior court judges  at their homes in year 2007, it upheld non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused. The move came after a defence lawyer requested the court for more time as the senior counsel of Musharraf was abroad right now. Police also submitted a compliance report that a raid at Musharraf’s residence was carried out but he was out of the country. Public Prosecutor Nadeem Tabish represented the state.

 

Rehman Malik leaves for London to meet Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik has left for London to meet former president and Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Asif Ali Zardari. Both the PPPP stalwarts would exchange views on the current political situation in Pakistan during the meeting, said party sources on Thursday. The sources said that they will also review government and opposition performance in the context of current political situation of the country. Party sources said that Rehman Malik will also apprise the chairman PPPP about the steps being taken at party level on highlighting the Kashmir dispute.

 

KP governor  asks officials to identify ‘ghost’ schools

PESHAWAR: Directing the officials to identify ‘ghost’ schools, Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said promotion of education in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) is the priority of government.  Chairing a meeting on updates on construction of educational institution in Fata at the Governor’s House on Thursday, he said that bright future for the country can only be ensured by providing modern education facilities to the young generation.

 

Bomb goes off near Kulachi police post

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A bomb blast occurred near a police checkpoint in Kulachi area in the district, police sources said on Thursday.However, the explosion caused no casualty or material loss.The sources said the blast was caused by explosives planted by miscreants a few steps away from a police checkpoint near Sheikhi Gate area.

 

Two shot dead in Bannu

BANNU: Two persons were killed over minor disputes here on Thursday.Inam Khan and Umar Gul allegedly opened fire on Zafran after an exchange of harsh words over a petty issue at Dharmakhel in the jurisdiction of Basiakhel Police Station. Meanwhile, Changez Khan allegedly shot dead Zeeshan after an exchange of harsh words during a volleyball match in Jogi Killay in the limits of Mandan Police Station. The police have registered cases against the accused.

 

Korean woman arrested in Darra

KOHAT: The Levies Force personnel arrested a woman belonging to South Korea in Darra Adamkhel, Frontier Region Kohat, on Thursday, official sources said.They said the burqa-clad woman, identified as Hanwyi, 27, was wandering in Sherakera area in Darra Adamkhel when the Levies Force personnel arrested her.The arrested woman was handed over to the security forces for interrogation.

 

Criminal held in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The police on Thursday arrested an accused involved in attacks on police parties in the provincial capital.An official of Regi Police Station said that the police arrested Ayaz Khan and a hand-grenade and arms were recovered from him. He said the alleged criminal was wanted by the police in various acts of terrorism, including attacks on police parties and bomb blasts.
