Capital City Police finalise security arrangements for Muharram

PESHAWAR: The Capital City Police during an action recovered 46 pistols,eight semi-automatic rifles and arrested one person on Sunday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Suburb Fazal Wahid told reporters here that acting over a tip-off, thepolice stopped a car, LXZ-3155, on Ring Road near Kohat Road. “When the hidden cavities of the car were searched, police recovered 46 pistols, eight semi-automatic rifles and 24,000 rounds from the vehicle. One person, Mohammad Zaman of LakkiMarwat was arrested,” said the official. Police said the seized weapons could have been used for terrorist activities during the Ashura Muharram.

PESHAWAR: The Capital City Police have finalised security arrangements for the Muharram. A meeting of the police was held on Sunday at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Capital City Police Officer Mohammad Tahir presided over the meeting.

The CCPO directed the officers to review the security arrangements made for imambargahs, mosques, routes of the processions and other sensitive places. He ordered the force to enhance security at the entry points to the city, checking points, especially those close to the routes of the processions.

The participants of the meeting were told to ensure the ban on pillion riding, arms display and entry of the Afghans into urban areas.

The cops were directed to properly search all the hotels, inns and other places where people from other areas can stay. The CCPO told the officers to ensure that all the processions and activities during the Muharram were properly filmed.

JAMRUD: The Khassadar forces foiled a smuggling bid and seized a huge quantity of narcotics from a vehicle here on Sunday, official sources said.

The sources said that Khassadar personnel seized 24 kilogrammes of opium and 3 kg of hashish from secret cavities of a car during a routine search at Bigyari checkpost.  They also arrested two alleged smugglers identified as Said Nawaz and Nikwali. Khassadar registered the case against them and sent them to the lock up in Jamrud for further investigation.
