ISLAMABAD: In view of the atrocities being committed by the Indian forces in the Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK) as well as escalation of tension between Pakistan and India, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali has refused to visit India to participate in a global conference.
Well-placed sources confided to The News on Friday that the CJP had refused to attend a three-day global conference on “National initiative towards strengthening arbitration and enforcement in India” scheduled for October 21-23.
The Chief Justice of India had invited CJP Anwar Zaheer Jamali to participate in the conference. The invitation was extended through the Indian high commissioner, who called on him in July this year.
Sources said the Chief Justice of Pakistan, through the Registrar’s Office, had intimated the Foreign Office about the conference and sought opinion about participating in the event. The Foreign Office recommended that the CJP may attend the conference. However, the chief justice refused to visit India.
The legal fraternity has lauded the CJP’s decision.“The chief justice has taken a very timely decision by refusing to visit India for attending the global conference,” said Barrister Ali Zafar, President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
