NAWABSHAH: Commissioner Dr Waseem Ali has taken serious notice of shortage of doctors and medical staff at the People’s Medical Hospital (PMH) when he visited its different departments on Wednesday.
The commissioner visited the emergency ward, ultra-sound and x-Ray sections and trauma centre. He noticed that shortage of staff was hampering treatment facilities.
Talking to media the commissioner said the People’s Medical Hospital is providing medical facilities not only to three districts of Benazirabad but also to patients coming from other districts. Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) of the hospital Dr Abdul Ghani Brohi told the commissioner that health department was intimated through correspondence regarding shortage of doctors and staff and a response is awaited.
He said the PPP MNA Dr Azra Fazal and secretary health were also informed in this regard during their recent visit. He informed that the OPD of the hospital was providing treatment to over 2,000 patients daily for which the existing workforce is insufficient.
He also informed that the sanitary staffers do not report to their duty. They enjoy support of influential persons and come to hospital only at the time of receiving salary. Regarding consequences of load shedding the DMS said that the demand by HESCO was fully paid for separate feeder but it has not been installed due to which there are delays in surgical operations. He said the patients in remote areas are falling victim to quacks, which are on the increase. The commissioner responded that campaign against quacks would soon be launched.
