‘Zeenat was breathing when set on fire’

LAHORE

An anti-terrorism court judge, Ch Muhammad Ilyas, Tuesday recorded statement of a doctor who had conducted postmortem of Zeenat Rafique revealing that the girl was breathing when her family set her on fire. 

On June 8, Zeenat Rafiq, 18, was burnt alive allegedly by her mother and brother for marrying a man of her own choice.  The doctor in his statement informed that explosives were used to burn Zeenat Rafique and the material was also recovered from the clothes of the girl. 

During the hearing, two other witnesses also recorded their statements. According the statement of the witnesses, the circumstances showed that no traces of resistance were found from the dead body of the deceased or place where it was lying. The upper half body of the deceased was on the roof while the lower part was lying at stairs. 

After recording statement of doctor and witnesses, ATC Judge summoned investigation officer to record his statement today (Wednesday).

Mother of the deceased and his brother are in jail over their alleged involvement in burning Zeenat Rafiq.
