PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Thursday announced the tehsil status for the Sheringal town of the Upper Dir district.
He made the announcement at a jirga at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here, said an official handout.
Member Provincial Assembly Muhammad Ali was leading the members of the jirga.
Provincial Minister Inayatullah Khan, Member National Assembly Sahibzada Tariqullah, Senior Member Board of Revenue Afzal Latif, Jamaat-e-Islami district chief Hanifullah, district leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Alam Zeb and members of district and tehsil councils of Upper Dir were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister said upgrading of Sheringal to the tehsil level was a long standing demand of the local people. He assured the upgrading would be formally notified within 20 days.
Pervez Khattak termed the unity of the JI and PTI in Upper Dir a good omen for the two coalition partners in the provincial government.
