Educational institutions urged to incorporate modern teaching methods

Faculty of higher education institutions was urged to incorporate modern teaching methodologies to prepare students for global competition, at the conclusion of the training workshop organised by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT).

The training workshop on the topic of “Managed Pakistan: Today’s Need, Tomorrow’s Solution” was concluded here on Sunday and was attended by business administration faculty of all eight campuses.

The main purpose of the workshop was to promote research and networking in the region following the tradition of bridging gap between industry and academia. The event opened with a welcome address by Rector CIIT Dr. S.M Junaid Zaidi who emphasised over learning from the past and preparing for the future. Founder and CEO of Edible Arrangements international, USA Tariq Farid gave motivational talk on how teachers can encourage their students to become entrepreneurs. Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Khalid Riaz also spoke on the occasion and shared his thoughts Pak China Trade.

The opening ceremony was followed by a group activity in which groups were assigned topics to discuss pertaining to Past Business Education Practices.

The evening session has two talks. The first talk was delivered by Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, who emphasised upon collaboration amongst researchers and meaningful research output. The second speaker was Vice Chancellor LUMS Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi who highlighted the importance of incorporating ethics, technology and sustainability in business education. He said that management education is an application discipline which needs to be connected with industry for fruitful results.

The talks were followed by training by Dr. Nasir Afghan from IBA- Karachi. He guided the faculty as to how can they effectively deliver case study teaching methodology. The first day closed with a colourful musical evening.

The second day opened with a talk by Former Regional Manager of CIMA Bradley Emerson who talked about combining all the stakeholders with the university system. The second talk was given by Chairman Innovative Development Strategies Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Sohail Jehangir Malik, who spoke on the role and importance of teacher in the society. The talks were followed by a training by Group Head HR and IT — Emaar Pakistan Yousaf Haroon on writing case studies.

There were two talks held in the afternoon. First talk was given by Salman Ansari, who spoke on IOTs importance in the business world. He lauded the efforts of Rector CIIT in making CIIT an excellent example of innovation and out of the box thinking. Second talk was delivered by Madam Shahida Saleem, who emphasised on building leadership qualities in students.

On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas announced a case study competition. Rector CIIT Dr. Zaidi said in his closing remarks, to work together in strengthening higher education in Pakistan. He also promised to support the participants of the case study competition both intellectually and financially.
