LAHORE

Punjab Assembly Wednesday passed two legislations including Punjab Revenue Authority (Second Amendment) Bill 2016 and Punjab Animals Slaughter Control (Second Amendment) Bill 2016, while the remaining two legislations on the agenda of official business for the day were deferred for Thursday (today) on the request of leader of the opposition, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed.

While the House was busy in legislation process and had passed these two bills, speaker Rana Iqbal said he had received a letter from the opposition leader asking that the remaining agenda should be deferred for the next day in order to facilitate the opposition members to participate some important political activity being undertaken by Pakistan Tehrik Insaf (PTI) shortly afterwards. With this, the speaker adjourned the proceedings.

The amendment in the Punjab Revenue Authority (Second Amendment) Bill 2016 is aimed at allowing the government for retrospective validation of the Authority with effect from 01, 07, 2012, and rationalizing the conditions of eligibility of the accountant member of the Appellate Tribunal and empowering the Authority to establish offices, frame regulations for allocations and transactions of its business, besides empowering the government to grant performance based incentives to the chairperson and members of the Authority.

The amendments in Punjab Animals Slaughter Control (Second Amendment) Bill 2016 will make it illegal and punishable for selling any meat without having any stamp, mark, tag or certification of a slaughterhouse will be deemed that the animal was not slaughtered legally in the slaughterhouse.
