Waziristan, Khyber Agency safer after Zarb-e-Azb: US

WASHINGTON: Jonathan Carpenter, Special Representative of the US for Afghanistan and Pakistan, while appreciating Pakistan’s war against terrorism, has said that because of the Zarb-e-Azb Operation, Waziristan and Khyber Agency have become safer.
He said that provision of the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) to Pakistan will continue for the current fiscal.
Carpenter said that he held extensive talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Government of Pakistan had assured an indiscriminate operation against all the terrorist groups.
In an interview with a US broadcasting agency, Carpenter, however, said that the US had no particular interest in the progress of National Action Plan (NAP) but it wanted to support Pakistan in its operation against terrorism in North Waziristan and Khyber tribal agencies. He said that Pakistan armed forces operation in the Fata areas was a welcome act as normalcy and peace were returning to these areas and the areas were becoming safe and secure.
The special representative also praised the government measures to provide health, education and employment facilities to the people of Fata areas. He said the US was eagerly waiting for the visit of PM Nawaz Sharif to the US, hoping that during this visit bilateral relations between the two would further expand.
