WANA: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative Indrika Ratawatte along with a team of Pakistan Army officials visited the Kaniguram area of South Waziristan Agency to review the rehabilitation work in the devastated tribal region on Saturday.
The UNHCR representative expressed grief over the financial and human loss the people of the area sustained during the over 10 years of militancy.
The UNHCR chief also reached the tribesmen recently returned to their hometown and asked them about their problems.
According to an estimate, in Kaniguram alone at least 10,000 houses had sustained damage during the militancy and military operations.
Meanwhile, a team led by political naib tehsildar of Ladha sub-division Muhammad Ayub had surveyed as many as 465 damaged houses in Kaniguram area to assess the damage.
Following the completion of the survey, the owners of the fully damaged houses would be given Rs400000 while partially damaged houses Rs160,000 as compensation.
