Senior cops feel ignored in postings

Officer facing threats transferred from one troubled district to another

PESHAWAR: A few senior officers posted at the Central Police Office feel neglected as many cops junior to them have been posted as district police officers and given other field postings, a source said.

Also, an officer under threat has recently been transferred from one troubled district to another instead of posting him at a relatively peaceful place. 

A source said that a few senior officers at the CPO and other offices have been feeling neglected for quite a long time after they were not posted as DPOs despite having a good record.

Many junior to them have been posted as DPOs in key districts. 

“Not only those who were recruited through Provincial Civil Service, but also some officers of the Police Service of Pakistan are being ignored in posting against key operational positions despite their willingness as well as competence and good reputation.

A couple of them managed their transfer out of the province in the last few months,” said a source.

The source added that majority of the PCS officers have been transferred out of the province while many from the junior batches were looking for other options after they were ignored. 

“Some PSPs who want to contribute in improving law and order are not being given any responsibility to operationally command a respective area. This has discouraged them,” said a source.

It added that a few good officers of the PSP, PCS and rankers could perform better if given field posting. 

The source said many were criticising the transfer of a DPO, who has been receiving serious threats, from one troubled district to another troubled town.

The officer was recently awarded a top gallantry medal by the President of Pakistan for extraordinary performance. 

“He and another DPO who have been facing threats should have been posted in relatively peaceful districts to give them some relief,” added the source.  

The KP Police have recently written to the federal government through the provincial government regarding shortage of officers in senior grades so that they could be posted in the field.

However, a few of those seniors who are willing are not being posted to head the force in key districts.
