Benone reaches Islamabad for PJF polls

KARACHI: International Judo Federation’s (IJF) representative Gerard Benone on Friday reached Islamabad to observe the elections of Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF).

“Yes, Benone has reached the federal capital on a special request of the PJF and Pakistan Olympic Association (POA),” a source said.

Other sources said that Army’s Sports Directorate secretary Col Junaid Alam is likely to be elected as president of the PJF for the next four years.

The outgoing PJF president Col Rana Shujat Ali has completed two tenures and as per national sports policy he cannot contest.

PJF secretary Masood Ahmed has also completed two tenures and cannot fight for the secretary’s slot. But the sources said that Masood is set to become vice-president of the federation.

The sources said that three candidates would contest for secretary’s slot and one of them is Mansoor Ahmed, brother of Masood.

Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) Azam Dar will also observe the elections. As many as 26 voters will cast their votes in the electoral meeting which will be held at a local hotel.
