Top civil, military leaders to sit together on 10th

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has called an Apex Committee meeting on September 10 to discuss and review the progress on the National Action Plan (NAP).
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will submit a detailed report on the implementation of the NAP in the meeting that will take place at the Prime Minster’s Office (PMO).
It is likely that all the four chief ministers would also be invited to the meeting.
It will be the first meeting of its kind in about six weeks where all the stakeholders will also contribute their input.
Meanwhile, army chief General Raheel Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had important meetings with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, first one-on-one and then jointly at the PM House here on Friday.
Highly-placed sources said it had been decided that no concession would be given to terrorists, criminals and their abettors in any part of the country, including Karachi, and the operation’s pace wouldn’t be slowed down in any manner.
The was the second meeting of the army chief with the prime minister in less than a week.
It has been officially stated that matters related to internal security situation and security of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects came under discussion.
The meeting also focused on the security situation with particular reference to the CPEC, as the two discussed the deployment of armed forces on the project route.
The prime minister was in agreement with the army chief that all resources to this effect will be provided.
China was informed early this year that the army had created a special 12,000 personnel unit for the security of Chinese engineers working on more than 3,000-km-long route.
Sources said the meetings had a conspicuous significance in the backdrop of two visiting dignitaries’ efforts for elimination of terror from the face of the country and their recent engagements on various counts.
The officials said the interior minister discussed the national security situation and apprised the prime minister of his meetings with the British leadership during his recent week-long visit to the UK.
Sources said the interior minister had briefed the British authorities on the activities of MQM leader Altaf Hussain which are detrimental to ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The minister urged the British government to discourage such activities of Altaf.
Nisar convinced the British authorities to check the obnoxious activities of the MQM leader.
The minister also visited the UK last year and gave a fair view of anti-Pakistan activities of some Baloch insurgents and the MQM leadership.
The recent visit of Nisar was in continuation of his previous sojourn to the United Kingdom. The two countries have made tangible progress on sealing an extradition treaty and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also reported to the premier about it.
The British authorities have assured Nisar that London believes in maintaining close and friendly relationship with Pakistan and was prepared to do whatever was required by Pakistan for its interests.
Prime Minister Nawaz and Nisar also discussed fresh contours of the Karachi operation, the sources said.
Nawaz lauded the efforts of Chaudhry Nisar and the outcome his visit to the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, former naval chief Admiral (retd) Muhammad Asif Sandila also called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss with him matters of mutual interest.
Admiral Sandila is engaged in welfare activities and providing assistance to the needy youth for education and health.
