Reference against Nawaz filed with NA Speaker by PTI
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Monday submitted a disqualification reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution to the National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The PTI delegation, led by its deputy parliamentary leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Arif Alvi, submitted the disqualification reference against the prime minister for allegedly hiding tax and money laundering details.
However, the media was not allowed to cover the submission of the disqualification reference.“We have submitted the disqualification reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 63 of the Constitution and attached all the documentary evidence of his hiding the tax income and money laundering,” said Qureshi while talking to newsmen.
He said it was requested to the NA Speaker to send the reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).He said the Panama Papers were leaked by the international media and all those who were named should be probed. “Parliament has debated the Panama leaks,” he said. He aid the discussion on the Terms of Reference (ToRs) for probing the Panama leaks in the parliamentary committee was not made due to the attitude of the government.
He said the joint opposition in July decided to protest against the government’s attitude. “The decision did not bar any party from protesting,” he said.Qureshi said the PTI had also decided to opt for public protest besides continuing legal and parliamentary actions on Panama leaks. “The core committee of the PTI will hold its meeting on Tuesday (today) to review the current status and to formulate future strategy on the Panama Leaks,” he added. He said it was regrettable and shows the double standards of the government that it did not allow the media to cover the submission of the reference.
